Writer’s Block happens to everyone. You are no less creative or more unimaginative than the next bestselling author. It’s a case of being unable to think of what to write or how to proceed with writing.
Now, I am no writer but I think blogger falls close enough. You may have noticed (or not) that things have been quiet on this blog recently for the simple excuse of writer’s block. I’ve been procrastinating. That’s all there is to it. It’s happened a few times to me in the past, but I’ve always been able to get over it quick enough. Last time I wrote myself a few steps to help.
Step 1: Admit it.
Okay.
My name is Marian and I have writer’s block.
Step 2: Force yourself to write a post.
Currently doing that. And struggling. So much struggling. I apologise if this sounds like utter rubbish.
Step 3: Do not delete said post.
Alright. I won’t.
Step 4: Take some time to do something your like.
~We heart it
~Pinterest
~Read a chapter
~Take some photos
~Learn a new song on piano/guitar
Step 5: Read more than 5 blogs.
I think it is about time I do that.
Step 6: Do something out of your comfort zone.
Oh. Hmmm…. like what? I have signed up to take part in Zombie Outbreak (some weird tag like game lasting a week in college), does that count?
Step 7: Do something creative.
I think I might paint. Or do some journaling.
Step 8: Write down new blog ideas.
That might be tough.
Step 9: Write another Blog post.
Have you ever been inflicted with a mild case of writer’s block? What did you do to overcome it? Any tips?
Well I just post anything random..and the fact that most of my posts are random people don't realize I got writer block kind of thing 😛
It's been so long since I came over at your blog..how you been? 😀
Random is good. Random keeps things interesting. I like random. Maybe i should be more random. Be unpredictable…
Anyhoo, besides the whole "what do I write?" thing, I have been very good. Thank you for asking. How are you?
Up to my head in college work though. I love python but sometimes it kills me :L
I wish we learned cool languages but our course is designed in such a way that they make sure we don't learn anything cool..all cool languages which are actually used are to be learned separately..I've been a bit busy as well..mostly procrastinating and doing bit of internship work with college..
What beside Python are you learning?and did your internship start yet?
Ha! Love this post 🙂
Whenever I have blogger's block, I just post some Teenager's Post pictures or Keep Calm quotes or even a song and let myself rant as an intro. Usually helps.
Writer's blog can be rough! The best way to tackle it is to get back in touch with the reason why you first started. My trick to avoiding it is to write down any and all ideas I ever get (no matter how fragmented or silly) so I have a whole host of things to choice from when I've got nothing.
Good luck getting out of your slump!
😀 Glad you liked it.
Okiess, I might try something like that. Post something I like or want to talk about. ^_^
That's a very valid point. Why did I start blogging? Hmm…
Yeah, I've written down a few things, most are completely ridiculous! It does help get the creative ideas flowing though.
Thanks ^_^
Aw, no! That's awful. You do learn some language though, right? Java? C?
Procatinating – story of my life 😀
Ahm… well we do Web Development which used to be just HTML but now it's tying python in together (usually with forms etc. ). I also do problem solving and systems ( which is how a computer is made – really confusing!!! )
Internship will start in June. Which is both too close and too far away 🙂 I'm nervously looking forward to it 😀
WRITERS BLOCK. *hits head on desk* I love these steps though! The hardest is don't delete the said post…. *looks at delete button* *itches to click it* ITS LIKE A BIG RED BUTTON. Great post, Marian! 😀 xx
This is really relatable! It's difficult to come up with topic to write about sometimes, and I love the tips you've shared. These might actually help, so thank you for sharing these steps. I have more incompleted draft posts than completed published posts, because I get writers block now and then as well. I usually wait for something significant to happen to finally get inspiration on what to write, haha. I suppose another way to overcome this is also to do something out of the ordinary? Then maybe we can look at a different perspective and come up with something to write. 🙂
I've had writers block this week actually! >_< I usually post (nearly) everyday and I've posted only twice this week so far, aghhhh. Writers block is REAL. (And btw, I think all bloggers are writers! We write! We're creative! = we are writers. 😉
Thanks for stopping by @ Paper Fury!
EXACTLY! 😀 thanks. I actually wrote AND deleted two posts before this. They were just… so.. so.. bad *shakes head*.
Thanks Rita! ^_^ x
I'm glad you liked it and that you could take something away from it. 😀 Writer's block is a frequent affliction that really messes up with the whole blogging ambience. Inspiration is the greatest cure I think. Like you said, it's just trying to find that inspiration. Maybe spontaneous is the way to go? That would surely be out of the ordinary. ^_^ Thank you!
Really? Isn't it just so annoying?! Wow – posting everyday is an overwhelming commitment to blogging! Well done 😀 YES! Bloggers are writers!
Thank you! ^_^
